The Chinese government is relaxing ownership limits in commercial banking, securities, futures, asset management and insurance. What opportunities does this present for Switzerland’s flagship banking and insurance institutions? Is China’s traditional banking sector sufficiently developed? What does this move mean for Hong Kong? This event offers unique insights directly from one of Hong Kong’s most recognised figures in banking and insurance, Bernard Charnwut Chan. Chan is also a high-ranking official in the Hong Kong Administration, appointed by Carrie Lam in 2017.
Bernard Chan GBS JP is the convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, appointed by Carrie Lam in July 2017. He is President of Asia Financial Holdings and its main subsidiary, Asia Insurance. He founded the Bank Consortium Trust, a joint venture of nine Hong Kong institutions. He is the grandson of Chin Sophonpanich, the late Thai Chinese founder of Bangkok Bank.
